The Process

The McCoy Theater Board of Directors is committed to doing its part in bringing culture to and supporting the arts within our community. We encourage the involvement of our youth in all aspects of the performing arts whether it be on stage or behind the scenes. The McCoy’s Grand Theatre Scholarship is designed to recognize the talent and potential of area youth in theatrical arts by helping students financially with post-secondary education. Based on the board's discretion, a yearly scholarship may or may not be awarded.

The scholarship application is available below for 2025.  The deadline for submission is April 1, 2025.. Scholarship guidelines and application forms will also be available from guidance counselors at Moorefield and East Hardy high schools.

Eligible seniors must:

- Be in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 grade point average;

- Submit an official high school transcript with GPA along with application;

- Submit two letters of recommendation from members of the academic community or community/civic leaders. The letters of recommendation should be brief statements describing the student’s character and motivation toward success. McCoy’s Grand Theatre board members may not be asked for recommendations.

- It is also required that the applicant have been involved in at least one McCoy's Grand Theater production. Involvement would include either stage performance or tech work during a production (Tech work could include lights, sound, set design/construction, costuming, etc.)

- Applicants must also write an essay answering the following four questions:

How has theatrical arts helped you grow as a person?

What are your goals for continuing theatrical arts involvement?

What are your career goals?

How will you use this scholarship to help you achieve these goals?

Essays should be typed, double-spaced and not exceed two pages.  Finalists may be called for an interview. All materials should be sent to McCoy’s Grand Theatre Scholarship, P.O. Box 125, Moorefield, WV 26836.
