When Eunice Dasher McCoy passed away, she had a provision in her will to preserve McCoy's Grand so that it would not be torn down or extensively remodeled. The theater, built in 1927, has undergone some renovations since that time, but it largely remains much as it was in its heyday. During her life, Mrs. McCoy amassed an impressive antique collection, much of which is on display throughout the theater's lobby and showroom. The McCoy-McMechen Theater & Museum is a popular stop during Hardy County's Heritage Weekend, held each year during the last weekend in September. Visitors can see everything from antique dishes to furniture. For film buffs the lobby contains publicity shots from such classics as "Gone With the Wind", "My Fair Lady" and "Fiddler on the Roof", and of course the theater and stage themselves are attractions.
The McCoy's Board of Directors is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the museum while keeping it alive as an active theater providing entertainment to the community. We invite you to stop by and see the historical treasure that is the McCoy-McMechen Theater & Museum.
